Prof Virginia Berridge

Virginia Berridge is Professor of History at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and founder Director of the Centre for History in Public Health there.

She has written extensively on  history and policy issues in relation to illicit drugs, alcohol, smoking, HIV/AIDS and the relation of evidence ( including history) to policy. Her most recent books are : Demons .Our changing attitudes to alcohol, tobacco and drugs (Oxford University Press, 2013)and Public Health. A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press ,2016).

Virginia is Senior Editor History for the journal Addiction. She is currently the PI of a Wellcome Trust funded cross national study looking at history evidence and policy in relation to e cigarettes in Australia, the UK and the US.
