Team Leader - Tobacco Control, Alcohol and Gambling Policy Lead
Department of Health and Social Care

Matthew has worked at the Department of Health for over nineteen years in a wide range of health and care policy areas, working and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders, including at an international level.

He currently works as a Team Leader on tobacco control covering legislation and policy areas on novel tobacco products, e-cigarettes, and is also the UK FCTC focal point. He is also currently overseeing a 5 year UK ODA funded FCTC 2030 project, being led by the FCTC secretariat to improve tobacco control in low and middle income countries. In addition to tobacco policy Matthew also covers various areas of alcohol and gambling health harms policy for the Department.


Matthew completed a Masters in Health Policy at Imperial College London in November 2015. Matthew is married and has a young son and all live in the beautiful city of Leeds.
